Consequences of Terrorism and Preventive Measures Against Terrorism

CONSEQUENCES OF TERRORISM

1. Death: Usually in terrorist attacks, there is mostly loss of lives of innocent people particularly civilians who may not even be aware of the political issues in contention. It may also be on the poor who were either looking for their daily bread or in their work places or rich people whose wealth was never gotten from the government in contention.

2. Crime: The act of terrorism itself is a crime and it is punishable upon conviction to life imprisonment. Therefore, any person or persons who are tried in court and convicted of the offence of terrorism will be put in jail for life.

3. Loss of Property: These attacks are mostly carried out in areas where properties are located so that houses, shops, vehicles, animals and so on are lost.

4. Hatred: There is usually hatred between the perpetrators of this act, if they were known and the government or members of the public for whatever purpose these attacks were carried out.

5. Fear: People will be afraid of going about freely. They have to be careful whenever they are going out or may not go out at all.

6. Lack of Peace: There will be no peace in that situation because the peaceful existence of a country is being threatened therefore, the government and people will not be at peace.

7. Bodily Injury: There is usually serious bodily injury to civilians or non combatants with the purpose of intimidating the population or compelling a government or an international organization to do or abstain from doing any act

PREVENTIVE MEASURES AGAINST TERRORISM

1. Security: Government should put in place good security system with the gadgets to dictate these acts before they go out of hand.

2. Youths should be enlightened on the dangers of terrorism. They should be told of the ills of taking other people's lives or destruction of property.

3. Some state information should be restricted because most terrorist benefit from free flow of information and efficient telecommunication to succeed where others had failed.

4. Report people suspected to be terrorists of the law enforcement agents for prompt action. Government must act promptly if an information of terrorists is passed to it.

5. Government should do the right thing so that such kinds of people or groups may not come up.

6. There should be peaceful coexistence between members of the society to avoid the invitation of terrorist attacks in the neighbourhood.

7. Parents should be concerned with the affairs of their children so that they can know the kinds of friends and relationships their children keep and places their children visit.
